Lilburn House Open Day

An Open Day at the Lilburn House which is an excellent example of domestic modernist architecture, is a Category 1 Heritage Listed building.

An Open Day at the Lilburn House, the former home of composer Douglas Lilburn. The Lilburn House, an excellent example of domestic modernist architecture, is a Category 1 Heritage Listed building. At 2.30pm and 3.30pm there will be short performances in the house from from the current Composer-in-Residence, Briar Prastiti and the Moth Quartet. This Open Day will run in conjunction with similar events at the Randell Writers' Cottage and the Rita Angus Cottage. We provide a map to encourage visitors to walk from one cottage to the other two.

Health & Safety

There are no obvious health and safety issues. Ascot St, however, is quite steep if approaching the Lilburn House from the Eastern city side). Trustees will ensure that the path leading from the front gate to the front door is clean and clear of moss

The Lilburn Residence Trust looks after the former home of Douglas Lilburn and administers a composer-in-residence programme that provides a year for a composer to work in beautiful surroundings at a heavily subsidised rental. Our composer-in-residence programme is run in conjunction with the New Zealand School of Music.
