Randell Cottage Open Day

Randell Cottage is a rare example of colonial domestic architecture still surviving in modern-day Wellington. It was built in 1867 as two gable-ended sheds by William Randell, a Dorset stonemason, for his family which eventually totalled ten children. Expanded in 1874, it eventually fell into disrepair and came close to demolition until being preserved and restored by Randell descendants in the 1990s. The Randell Price family gifted it to the Randell Cottage Writers Trust in 2001. The Cottage is only open to the public once a year, when we join with two other historic Thorndon houses, Rita Angus and Lilburn, in hosting Open Days to celebrate Wellington Heritage Week.
