St Peter's Church Te Aro Bell Tower Open Day

Te Aro Tower, the official name of the bell tower at St Peter’s on Willis, will have an open ringing day.

The tower has the oldest Ellacombe frame in New Zealand and one of the few complete sets of Warner Bells. Come along, spend some time in one of the oldest church buildings in Wellington, have a go at ringing the bells.

The tower access is up very steep stairs. Visiting children must be accompanied by an adult.

Location: St Peter’s Church, 211 Willis St, Te Aro, Wellington

Cost: Koha that will be used to maintain the bells

Health & Safety: Steep stairs with handrails. Prominent notices to use rails and ask for help if required. Warning about steep stairs should be in notice as above. Children to be accompanied by an adult. Defibrillator available.

St Peters Church, Te Aro

St Peters is a very active and inclusive Anglican Parish and community church for and of the people of Te Aro. It has been on the current site for 140 years and has been a shelter for the local population in many disasters. It is a timber gothic church with one of the finest organs in Wellington and historic stained glass windows.
