Terawhiti Station Historic Goldfields Tour

This tour takes in the magnificent landscape on Terawhiti and some of the significant early historic sites and operations to recover gold.

Terawhiti Station on Wellington’s south west coast is one of New Zealand’s oldest and largest sheep stations. During the late 19th century a number of goldfield operations took place on the station. This tour takes in the magnificent landscape on Terawhiti and some of the significant early historic sites and operations to recover gold. To join this tour you must have access to a 4WD vehicle, as it will involve driving through farmland to access historic sites. Some time will be spent at the Albion Battery, in Black Gully, where conservation work is being undertaken to restore the historic foundations of the goldfield battery and reinstate and interpret machinery used in the goldfield operations. Must have a 4WD vehicle. Back up day (in event of rain) Sunday 5 November.

Health & Safety

This outdoor tour involves driving on farm roads and including some climbing. To join this tour you must have access to a 4WD vehicle, as it will involve driving through farmland to access historic sites.
