The information in this guide is based on David Green’s book ‘Battlefields of the New Zealand Wars: A Visitor’s Guide’, Penguin, 2010. This book provides clear directions to sites around the country as telling the stories of the battles in their historical context.

Walking Tour

Although no battles were fought in Wellington City during the New Zealand Wars, a number of significant sites mark this important period in New Zealand’s history. The tour stars at the National War Memorial on Buckle Street, Wellington City. Duration 4h 10m.

Driving Tour

A full day tour of sites in Wellington, the Hutt Valley, and Porirua relating to the New Zealand Wars. The tour starts on High Street, Lower Hutt. .
